Many road-users have a very low degree of awareness when it comes to risks and dangers. One aspect which has come to dominate many drivers’ view of accidents is that they themselves have not been the cause of the accident. Throughout the years one has been able to read newspaper notices where the actions of the drivers do not seem to have been of any significance for the accident: "Aquaplaning took 5 lives." - "The sudden cold and slippery roads caused 2 deaths." Newspapers´ responsibility Road safety in urban area Here the media with its far-reaching penetration carries a large responsibility, as it has the opportunity to get us road users to understand that in the end it is our behavior and way of driving which decides whether we are involved in an accident or not. Road safety in urban area How should we be able to reduce the traffic accidents om our roads? Studying the pictures below you can improve your ability to forsee hazardous moments in the traffic. I hope this will help create better knowledge of different risks that exist in various traffic situations and that this knowledge will contribute to an increased number of safe drivers which will lead us to improved road safety in our society. Here you will find descriptions of some risks that are present in common traffic situations. There are four details which are not described in the text, but which can be of great help in order to discover the risks and which increase the likelihood of the dangers occuring, in the picture sequences that follow. What are the dangers when you are driving in urban areas? You are driving your motorcycle or car and have just turned into a street with lots of traffic with both oncoming and parked cars. If you drive too closely to other vehicles you can easily find yourself in a hazardous situation. If you find yourself in the above situation your attention will probably be focused on the overtaking car. Hopefully it is not common that children are unattended in an urban area but it is in unexpected situations that accidents occur. What was your result? Did you succeed to discover the dangers?
